Blogs vs Wikis

Both blogs and Wikis are great tools of New Media. The blog can be created by anyone and the creator is able to write topics relevant to his/her interests. More importantly, the blogger can denied access to people. The freedom to write what someone wants is better stated by Melissa Gerry when she notes " through blogs, people are able to write about topics that interest them and comment freely what is going on in thier lives and in the world around them." On the other hand, Wikis provide collaborative websites and demand the involvment of the user in an ongoing process. For instance, someone can edit something wrong on the Wikis, and he/she will get corrected by other users. Anybody with relevant knowledge to the written topic can make correction and perhaps improve the quality of the material. Additionally, with Wikis the creation of the pages easy and they are automatically updated.

The convergence on New Media is mainly about the digitisation of information. Both Blogs and Wikis use a digitized information.

Although Wikis involve more collaboration, Blogs can also be used to develop collaboration among users. For instance, I can follow my classmates' blogs and vis-versa. Overall, I can exchange important information with my followers through the use of blogs.
