My New Media Class- So far

I find this class very interesting and it allows me to discover the use of technologies in many ways. At least, it permits me to blog, a thing that I never did before, and most importantly, I was amazed by how wiki works. The New Media uses a variety of technologies. Examples are blogs, wikis, social networking such as facebook and myspace, virtual worlds. Furthermore, the New Media is well known as web 2.0.
The internet plays a significant role in the New Media. Indeed, it allows a rapid search of data by using powerful search engines such as Google and Yahoo. With the internet, there is accuracy of the data and it provides also verifiability. In sum, the internet provides many tools for the New Media.
Equally important, the technologies used in New Media allow us to create virtual worlds. In the virtual world, someone in real life can create an avatar that looks like him or her. The amazing thing is the creation of learning programs such as the one used by IBM to train employees through the world. For instance, emerging countries like India, China and some U.S based companies use virtual world to improve the way to do business. According to Ted Hoff, vice-president of learning in IBM "New IBM employees separated by thousands of miles will be able to mingle, interact and share ideas in the virtual world before their first day on the job."
During the last five years, the New Media grows rapidly at an incredible pace. This development has a huge impact on Old Media. At times, the competition between these two seems to be in favor of the New Media. Hovewer, there is a tendency that Old Media tends to adjust to New Media by incorporating the New Media.
